Hocking Hills is a magical destination full of waterfalls, gorges, and towering cliffs — but is it toddler-friendly? The answer is a resounding yes! With a little planning and the right trails and activities, your Hocking Hills adventure can be safe, fun, and full of unforgettable moments for the whole family.
Here are some helpful tips and toddler-approved activities to make the most of your trip.
Before You Go: What to Pack
Sturdy baby carrier or hiking backpack – Many trails aren’t stroller-friendly, so a carrier is essential.
Plenty of snacks and water – Keep your toddler fueled and hydrated, especially in warmer months.
Layered clothing – The weather can change quickly in the hills, especially in shaded gorges.
First aid kit – For minor scrapes or bug bites.
Toddler-safe bug spray and sunscreen – A must for those open, sunny trails.
Stroller-Friendly Trails
While Hocking Hills is known for rugged terrain, there are a few spots that are manageable with a sturdy stroller or for wobbly walkers:
Ash Cave
Distance: ~0.5 miles (paved path)
Highlights: This is the most toddler- and stroller-friendly trail in Hocking Hills. The paved path leads to a breathtaking recess cave and waterfall. Your little one can walk part of the way and explore the sandy cave floor.
Bonus: Picnic tables and restrooms nearby.
Conkle’s Hollow Gorge Trail
Distance: 1.2 miles roundtrip – about the first half mile of the trail is stroller friendly
Highlights: The first .5 miles is paved or boardwalks and is great for hikers of all ages, the final portion of the trail includes rougher terrain but is still fun with plenty of rocks to climb on and a small waterfall at the end depending on recent rainfall.
Lake Logan State Park
Highlights: A great stop for an easy stroll around the water or a picnic lunch. You can also rent paddle boats or kayaks — just make sure someone stays on shore with your toddler if they’re too small to join.

Tips for Hiking with Toddlers
Keep expectations low – Focus on short, scenic hikes and build in lots of breaks.
Let them explore – Toddlers love throwing stones, picking up leaves, and splashing in shallow creeks (within reason).
Go early – Beat the heat and the crowds by hitting the trails in the morning.
Use the buddy system – If you’re traveling with more adults, assign one person to toddler duty to make things smoother.
Where to Stay
Look for cabins or lodges that offer:
Bathtubs for easy nighttime routines. Each cabin at Harble Ridge has at least one bathtub!
Full kitchens – enjoy the spacious kitchens and dining areas at all of Harble Ridge cabins.
Outdoor space to play safely. Your toddler will never want to leave Grandpa’s Superhero Park at Harble Ridge!
Bonus points – we have a hot tub for mom and dad at each cabin!
